I’ve been more in the art journaling side of the studio than the jewelry making studio for the last year. I’ve been making books and journals, and playing around with gel printing. Yesterday I broke out the stamp carving tools.
Of course I had to go all detailed, and funky.
I’ve been poking around public domain resources and was surprised to find some images of Ernst Haeckel. His drawings have been an inspiration for al long time.
It didn’t take long to realize that the shading of Haeckel’s drawings that make them so special does not directly translate to carving a rubber stamp. I still like how it turned out.
I went back to the images that I’d found and worked some up so that they’ll be easier to carve. Here’s what I have so far:
I carved up a couple of the new images today and realized that the details were too fine to carve easily. I got some good cuts, but will have to keep that in mind as I press forward.
These images will be fun for collage work, though.
