What Pink Glass Should I Use? I like COE 104!

by lorigreenberg on August 12, 2008

I received an email from someone who was at the ‘end of their rope’ with trying to find the perfect pink 104 COE glass, and could I help. First of all, you are not alone! Second of all, I’m not a pink user so I’m probably not the best person to ask. But, since I know this is an ongoing struggle for people I know there is information out there and I am setting out to compile some of it here. Feel free to drop a comment or email me if you would like to add to it.

1. First and foremost in my head is the new Think Pink e-book that has just come out written by Sarah Hornik. The pictures on the cover show beautiful beads that are all made with Rubino Oro. To achieve these beads you will need to layer and encase. I know that Rubino Oro right off the rod is way intense and not suitable for a base bead on its own. And the Rubino Oro is expensive. I haven’t read the ebook myself, but I’ve heard good things about it.

2. The second pink that pops into my head that I’ve heard that people have success with is Creation is Messy’s™ Gelly’s Sty pink. I’ve also heard good things about this glass and there are examples at the web site along with links to beadmakers who use it.

3. The third thing that pops into my head is Kandice Seeber. The Queen of Pink. Kandice has love affairs with colors and pink is one of them. Just recently she wrote a blog post comparing the transparent pink glass that she has worked with. She has reviewed Creation is Messy’s™ Cranberry Pink, Reichenbach 104 Opal Raspberry, and has put her own thoughts about Rubino Oro out there too.

4. Next, the Moretti/Effetre pinks. I have tried them here and there but have not find one to be that bubblegum pink that people are looking for unless they are encased with Rubino Oro or some other pink or purple transparent. That should be covered in Kandice’s blog posts.

5. Lastly, and not related directly to the emailers question are the Bullseye pinks. I hear they’re awesome but are 90 COE.

That is about all that I’ve accumulated over the years, and I haven’t followed the pink saga too closely. Again, please feel free to drop me an email or a comment of information to add to this post, or to write a follow up. Thanks for the initial question!
