I often get asked what those containers are on my work bench and the next question is, where do you get them. They’re Ice Tube Trays from Linens N Things.

And here is a close up of the labelling I use. Since I’ve acquired so many new colors over the last few years I’m getting ready to go through a reorganization where I will print the labels on a label making machine.

I have been using these tube trays for stringer that I pull, and then put a rod of that color in with the stringers for reference. Currently, I have 5 or 6 with different maker’s stringer- Reichenbach, Effetre, Boro, complex stringers, cane, etc.
However, seeing how easy it would be to have a rod or two of every color right there at my fingertips, in a neat way (not just lying out on the bench), looks really appealing. I like to think of my glass colors as like a box of crayons, and the more colors in your box (right there on the table with you) all the better to color with! I just may have to give this a try.
It also looks like it might be a good thing for teachers too- class supplies all set up in the tube trays… easy to dispense, easy to clean up.
Thanks Lori!
Lori,
I use a similar system, but don’t keep it labeled, as my rods are individually labeled.
I do, however, keep 3 different trays. One for 96 COE, one for Boro, one for 104 COE. If I used more BE I’d have one for that too. I’m thinking now that maybe I need one for my 104 stringers and twistie alone, as they tend to pile up quickly!
Thank you in general, btw, for being an inspiration to us all!!!

I have two of these, but mine, are not labeled…I am so not as organized as you are Lori…I have to go by…remembering, and all that jazz…I use mine for all my stringers I use for florals etc…
I got mine at a kitchen outlet store…I think even walmart carries these. Who would think to actually use them for ice cubes for sport bottles, geeeeeesh, its only obvious they are meant for stringers
Yep, WalMart does carry them, that’s where mine came from (and I need to get more!). I’ve used it for a couple of years, but never as organized as this! The front row has a rainbow of stringer (reds, oranges, etc), with pink, ivory and clear on the ends. Middle row- nothing special, need to clean it out. Back row, weird things I pulled long ago- again, need to clean it out. Maybe I do only need one! LOL (nahhhh… )
