One Reason to Have a Studio Tour…

by lorigreenberg on November 11, 2007

Your studio gets clean.

Of course, it doesn’t magically get cleaned; you have to do the work.  But chances are, if you’re having people over, you will clean.  I mean, really clean.

Today my mom came into town to whip me (and my studio) into shape.  She loves to do that and I am evidence in that regard that we try our hardest to not be as different from our parents as we can.  I did not get those genes and I fought the nurture part of the equation too.

I dusted the highest shelves for the first time since I’ve been in the studio.  How long has that been?  Two years?  While the dust wasn’t deep it did seem like it adhered to the surface.

I polished the stainless steel counters and vent hoods.

Sadly, I packed away all art that is not my own.  Bye bye cool, modeling compound tiki creatures.  So long  really-good-artist beads.   Hopefully I’ll remember to take you back out and enjoy you after the show.  Only one bead remains out and it’s one by James Daschbach and that’s only because it was tied to a cabinet handle and I didn’t want to cut the string.  And Jennifer Geldard’s bead poster is still on the wall.

Does that sound extreme?  It was suggested in an article that I once read that you take down all personal items and art that is not yours.  I didn’t do that in the past and I gotta tell you…if I have to explain where my tikis came from one more time I’m gonna scream.  Or if I have to tell someone that that cool polymer clay mask bead that I got in an exchange isn’t for sale.

So, our rule tonight was, everything visible is for sale.  Make me an offer.

Oh.  The shows starts next weekend.  See you there/here?
