I recently had the opportunity to interview Kandice Seeber over on the Bead Nerd Blog and thought it would be a great idea to review one of her eTutorials over here in the bead talk.
If you don’t know Kandice’s work, you’ve been missing out. She has the most divine sense of color and makes the most gorgeous floral (and other designs) beads you have ever seen. Now, you can learn how to make them from her tutorial also.
I’ve read Kandice’s tutorial twice now and both times I was first struck by her beautiful photos. Not only of the beads she is teaching you about but also the close-up action shots of her working in the torch. Step by step instructions that lead you through the process not only verbally but pictorally. It’s almost like you’re right there looking over her shoulder.
Kandice’s gentle and straightforward writing style starts you off from the very basic raised flower bead and encourages you to stay within your comfort zone with colors with which you are already familiar . I love this approach, as she explains, keeping it simple will provide less distraction and less for you to be concerned about. Later, she takes you into a more complex, five petal design and talks more about layering of colors and her favorite way to work to create “blushing” colors.
I’m wondering how many of you already have this tutorial because it seems like everyone loves florals. I’ve struggled with them, myself, in the past but after reading and seeing Kandice’s method I think even I could do it. If you don’t have this tutorial, now is your chance to win one and if not, hop on over to her Color Addiction site and pick one up. (She also has four others that you might be interested in).
Another thing that I enjoyed about reading this tutorial is Kandice’s discussion about her tungsten pick. She explains why she likes it as opposed to other similar tools and the benefits to the shape of her particular pick. I’m always up for a good tool tip or two, aren’t you?
Finally, Kandice provides links to web pages that she has compiled with resources for where to find the tools and glass that she uses in the tutorial, links to other tips and tricks and further resources for a glossary of terms.
I would say that this tutorial would be a great addition to your personal library and now, you have the chance to win one. Just leave a comment down below (one entry per person) by midnight, Arizona time, September 12th and I will randomly select one entry to receive a copy of the tutorial. Please make sure I can find you by the link to your name in the comment. If you don’t have a link, be sure to come back the week of September 13th to see if you’re the lucky winner.
Thanks for entering and good luck!!
