I am at the point in my color studies where less testing happens and more making of beads.  That is because I’ve worked out the basics for how a handful of color schemes work and now it’s just rearranging the combinations.  I am excited to show you this round because they keep getting better.  If you do something methodical like this you will find your skills and sense of what the glass does progressing too.

Up first today is melon and lime.  These make my mouth water.  Every time I look at them I smile…in part because I really like the colors together and in part because it surprised me how well these work.

Here is the opposite.  It never fails to amaze me how the same two colors can look totally different in different arrangements.  It reminds me of an art class I had when I was in college.  At the time I took it for granted but we were to make all these little panels of background colors with other colors in the middle.  It was interesting then too how the same color in the middle could look totally different on different backgrounds.  I should have paid more attention.

You had to know that I wouldn’t give up on turquoise and orange.  The last attempt was less than inspiring.

And I have to say that these don’t do it for me either.  At least, not with the blue on orange.  The reverse is better:

So, that’s on my ‘to do’ list of designs to work out still.  I was hesitant to do this next combination thinking that purple and turquoise are too similar and thought they would run together and be boring.  I was wrong.

The reverse is ok too but as I type this they’re all starting to look alike to me!  I was going to stop here but there is another combination that I’m really excited about.

I think these would make really great Halloween beads.  I remember a few years back wondering how purple became a Halloween color but there it is.  When I get into the tri color testing you know that these are going to have a dot of green in there somewhere.

I like the reverse of these even better!  I can’t wait to add these to my online catalog.

I have about three or four more combinations left to show you tomorrow in this go-round and that will have to be it for a few weeks.  The kids are off school and then it’s Bead & Button Show time.  I can’t wait to get back to it…there are so many colors that I haven’t even touched yet and then there’s the three color testing.  I may never make another focal bead again.

So much fun. Love the colors you are using. Can’t wait to see the rest.

This is so interesting! I usually just go to the torch and make a few things, then don’t know what to do next. I have learned alot from this thread.
I particularly like the purple/turquoise combinations.
