First, let me say that this contest is FUN. I love reading all of your comments and seeing your frit pictures. This week is spring break which means no studio time and lots of computer time so I’ll be getting the contest page up. Don’t forget to send me your frit pictures to be entered in contest 2. Thanks again Val!
I’m facing a new dilemma. I need to consolidate my show display to get it, and my inventory, onto an airplane. This is what I was able to accomplish for Tucson this year:
I thought I was doing pretty well but there is no way this will go on an airplane. I still have a suitcase with clothes too. I know I can eliminate one of the bead cases. It will force me to not take every single bead I own to the show (which I didn’t do this year in Tucson and it was still too much). I need to plan better.
Oh. Where am I going? Bead & Button baby. The details aren’t cinched up but there was an opening and I got the email asking if I was interested. Yes I am.
Anyway…other ways to pare this display down.
1. Get rid of some fabric. The tables are already skirted so I need to find a lightweight, appealing, table top cover that is easyt to transport.
2. Get a new banner. Mine is heavy vinyl and out of date anyway. A lightweight fabric might be nice but I’m open to new ideas too.
3. New displays. Or no displays. Right now I use bead trays to display in. I’m thinking of using a lightweight plush fabric as a visual tray and just laying the beads on the panels.
4. Lighting. One high beam. It’s not the most attractive but it’s better than lugging 8 small desk lights across the country. I’ve already made that switch. It was a chunk of change but way worth it.
5. Less inventory. Only beads that will be for sale (not all the other ones that people rummage around in when they have asked for ‘more’. No books.
6. Jewelry displays. I want to create pieces that show how simple production beads can be made into striking, high-end pieces. But how to do that without bulky displays to elevate and highlight the pieces?
Any ideas? How do you do it when you fly to shows? I won’t be shipping ahead. I’m not that organized and don’t want the hassle of having to ship it back too. I appreciate the feedback!

Thankfully, if I ever go to B&B I can drive, and I don’t forsee a time where I will be able to display at Tucson.
However, I have been putting a new booth concept together (both a 6′/12′ table and a whole tent display) over the past 2 months and I have been facing some of the same issues.
Mind you, these ideas are half-baked!
As far as a sign goes… I’ve seen those cut out lettered phrases at Hobby Lobby for your walls. I was thinking about finding someone with one of those Cricut cutters to see if I can cut out my lettering and iron them on to some yet-to-be found fabric and using sticky velcro/pins to attach it somehow to my table front or the wall behind me. The down side is that the fabric will show folds and I’m not so sure the velcro will work.
As far as displying finished jewelry, what about buying some of those folding busts and elevating them by putting some kind of box under the table cloth? I think that’s what I’m going to do.
Good luck!
Whoo-hoo! B&B? Need help holding down your booth dear?
I would love to have you there just for the company!
