So, I think I’m rockin’ it.

by lorigreenberg on September 26, 2009

Yes, that title is a bit pretentious but I cannot contain myself.  Over the years I have struggled with jewelry design.  I’ve really wanted to do it because I know that I would reach a much bigger audience.  The thing was…I didn’t wear jewelry so I really couldn’t get into making it.

Something just didn’t click.  So for the shows I did that really needed jewelry pieces I made some simple strung bracelets and simple wire wrapped pendants on imported cords.  I did pretty well because those simple pieces were affordable.  I have no idea how these will do because there is some major bead action going on here.  If you look at the one above you might notice some beads that I made a while back that didn’t sell.  There are 14 complex stacked dot beads and 38 spacers.  I like it a lot.

You’ve already seen this one but I re-strung it with a new matching toggle.  It feels good too.  And if you’re thinking, oh yeah, nice glass necklaces and they’re not exciting you?  You need to find me at a show and see them in person.  I would almost guarantee that you’d feel the impact they make.

So, that’s where I am.  I hope you enjoyed the eye candy.

The Ever Evolving Jewelry Project

Remember these beads?

Either my customers didn’t have the vision or the beads were too expensive because no one snatched them up.  So, I reclaimed them, added matching spacer beads and made a necklace.

Another component I added was a custom toggle closure instead of the silver ones I’d been using.  I will also re-string another necklace I made and add custom glass toggles.  It’s just one more touch that makes pieces fully artisan-made.

You can’t see it, but in this one there is a strange little work around on the toggle to attach it to the stringing wire that I’m not fully satisfied with.  I just took a one day class with Sara Sally LaGrand where she showed us how to attach wire into beads and that is the missing piece I’ve been needing.  I do believe it’s coming together nicely.
